What is a Coxswain?The coxswain of the boat is the person that steers the shell and commands the crew while on and off the water. It is the most important position in a sweep oared boat.There are links on this page to audio files of coxswains that have trained in the TRCJ program. These are examples of the types of things that coxswains communicate to their crews in race situations. You will notice differences in styles but the common aspect is that the coxswain is in command and it is vital to the success of a crew. Watch this video of the view from the coxswain’s seat
