Brock Turner

Name: Brock Turner

College: Oklahoma City University

“As a high school junior I had no idea what the sport of rowing was. I had played all the traditional sorts but was unable to find a sport that I excelled in and really enjoyed. Then I found crew. Rowing was a sport in which I could stand above the rest.Rowing taught me that if you are willing to work hard anything is possible.

In just 5 months I went from not knowing what rowing was to winning the SouthWest Ergometer Amateur Tournament. After my race, the coach of Oklahoma City University was interesting in talking to me. He asked me how long I had been rowing and if I was interested in rowing in college. I said I was and he took my email and said he would stay in touch. I was 16 at the time and not really looking at what college I wanted to attend.

The following spring, I visited their campus and gave the coaches all my current athletic achievements and a month later they came back with a scholarship offer.

OCU costs $40,000 a year to attend and if it was not for Tulsa Rowing Club I would never have been able to afford such a great school.”
